Great ExpectationsOne of the most important aspects of your newborn shoot is conveying your expectations to your photographer. There are two primary types of newborn photography, posed and lifestyle. Most photographers will do a combination of both, but it is important to know what you want so that you can get the results that you desire. The best way to do this is to visit he photographer website or Pinterest and find images you like and share them with your photographer. TO Be or NOT TO BEDeciding who is going to be a part of the pictures is another decision. Newborn only, both parents, siblings, mommy and baby, daddy and baby so on. Mommy and baby pictures done during your newborn session are invaluable, and may be some of the few you will have with your new bundle of joy. Mommy tends to be the one behind the cameras and phones taking the pictures leaving her out of the action. I know from experience. I have loads of pictures of my kids and pictures of them with others, but next to none of all of us together. I also know from experience two weeks after having a baby is on the bottom of your wish list of times to get your pictures taken, but I promise it will be cherished in the future. BRNG IT ONIf your photography session is on location in your home expect allot of baggage. Backdrops, blankets, beanbags, and a bounty of accesories. You will want to be sure you have an area cleared out usually near a good source of natural light, a large window or door. If you are not sure where is best don't fret your photographer will find the best location when they arive. If there are any props you want to use be sure to let your photograher know befor the shoot so they can be prepared. TIME IS ON YOUR SIDETypical newborn sessions will take about 2 hours, but baby rules so it could be more. I have had to come back on an additional day more than once. When scheduling your session try to do so when you think baby will be asleep. One helpful hint is to try to keep baby awake as much as possible prior to the shoot, then feed baby in just a diaper and loose blanket just befor go time. Perfect Isn't Always How You Picture ItDon't get cought up on the exact pictures you expect to get. All babies are different and all of them are up for different poses. Sometimes baby just will not work with you to give you the picture you wanted, but if you have a good photographer they will get you great images that work for your newborn.
